Parishioners seek intervention on spate of divorce

Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Central Area Abuja, has advocated the need to address fundamental issues causing a high rate of divorce in the country.

Senior Reverend of the church, Dr. John Ibrahim at a public forum, said there was no room for divorce in Christian marriages.

He said God hates divorce, as such, no Christian should consider it an option.

Once in, it is a life-long commitment till death, he admonished

A participant, Mrs. Comfort Damina who has been married for forty years, said external influences were a major cause of marital instability and that couples are to stick together in love and fight against negativity.

Another participant, Mr. Seth Ikaa who has been married for about five decades expressed sadness that some spouses who use sex as a tool of bargain have led their spouses into extra-marital affairs and subsequently a total collapse of their homes.

He emphasised that sex was a major element that binds marriage and should not be weaponised.

On domestic violence, another participant Mr. Joshua Damina said, men, who are mostly the proponents of abuse, should learn anger management when they feel riled up by utterances of their wives.

Mr. Damina added that there was no violence in a marriage that could not be amicably resolved.

Various stakeholders called on intending couples to be counseled by matured Christian couples and to leverage on the marriage counseling organised by the Church which guides individuals on choosing spouses and sustaining marriages.
