The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons has commence the verification of IDPs in Borno for the launch of an empowerment programme called ‘Project Reliance’.
Federal Commissioner, of the Commission Senator Basheer Mohammed said the programme was to make refugees, migrants and displaced persons sustainably self-reliant.
In a statement, he said the project, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, was in line with federal government’s efforts in alleviating sufferings of displaced persons.
“Project Reliance is tailor-made for the millions of Persons of Concern (POCs) and it is designed to restore their means of livelihood by helping them with startup capitals and starter packs in various trades and businesses of their choice”, the statement read.
According to the statement, the project would subsequently be extended to other states; Cross River, Zamfara, Katsina, Yobe, Adamawa, Kebbi
It added that Maiduguri was chosen as the pilot state because the highest numbers of displaced persons were resident in the State
