The commissioner of Police Abia state, Janet Agbede has warned youths to stop attacking Policemen that are carrying out their lawful duties in the state.
CP Agbede gave the warning while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Umuahia.
She noted that some youths attacked her men who went to arrest some suspects at various locations in the state misinterpreting the IGP’s directive for Police to stop arresting people.
Agbede explained that such directive was not given by the Inspector General of Police but that people misunderstood his directive as the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, FSARS and other intellegence response teams in the force were directed to abstain from carrying out conventional low risk activities like stop and search, road blocks and traffic controls on the roads.
She noted that Police have full right to arrest anybody suspected to have committed a crime.
CP Agbede also warned that the command would not fold it’s hands and watch miscreants disrupt Police from carrying out their lawful duties.
She assured residents of the state of the command’s readiness to provide adequate security to them.
