As Nigerians still bask in the euphoria of being declared free of the dreaded Wild Polo Virus, the federal government has rewarded health workers who participated in achieving the feat.
The celebration which took place in Abuja, also had post humorous awards to health workers who lost their lives in the process.
One of the Awardees and Chairman Senate Committee on Health, Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe commended the gesture and promised legislations that would make the Nation”s health security better.
Similarly, the minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, who received the Outstanding Leader of the Nigerian child award said it would motivate him to do more in addressing challenges in the health Sector.
He appealed that similar effort be made to eliminate known and unknown diseases in Nigeria.
The major recipient of the Award, and Executive Secretary of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, stressed the nation would defeat other diseases like it did Polio.
It would be recalled that the World Health Organisation declared Nigeria Polio Free making the last country in Africa to be certified.
