In a bid to encourage regular attendance of antenatal and immunisation programmes at Primary Health Centers, Diapers have been distributed to nursing mothers in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Commencing the distribution of Diapers to 6 Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory, Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen explained that the measure was to create awareness on the need for mothers to take care of their babies for healthy growth and development.
She further advised mothers to observe exclusive breast-feeding, avail their children for routine immunisation and ensure the registration of their children at birth to aid adequate planning.
“Immunisation is one of the ways you can protect yourself, your children and future generation form infectious diseases. Mothers must therefore be supported to ensure they take necessary steps towards the prevention of any threat to life (of their children) especially various childhood diseases” she said.
One of the beneficiaries, a nursing mother Mrs. Ifeyiwa Dickson appreciated the gesture and expressed the willingness to regularly visit the Primary Health Care center for check-ups of her child.
District Head of Ushafa, Alhaji Mohammadu Baba-Kwalga said the distribution of Diapers would encourage women to practice hygiene to boost their children’s health and development.
