The Benue State Government has announced September twenty-first as resumption date for primary and secondary schools for the first term to end December eighteenth.
Commissioner for Education, Professor Dennis Ityavyar who made this known while briefing newsmen in Makurdi said tertiary institutions are also to resume.
Professor Ityavyar stated that with the arrangement, the third term of last academic session has been cancelled with students expected not to pay school fees for the term for both public and private schools.
He stated that schools with large populations would be expected to divide the students into morning and afternoon sessions to ensure that COVID-19 protocols on social distancing would be observed.
According to the Commissioner of Education, parents are to ensure that their children return with face masks and hand sanitizers while the schools would provide materials for regular washing of hands.
Professor Ityavyar assured that the ministry of education and the state House of Assembly standing committee on education would monitor the schools on a regular basis to ensure that the schools comply with the guidelines.
For the tertiary institutions, the commissioner said the Governing Council of respective institutions would determine how they would be run without compromising COVID-19 protocols.
