Persons Living with Disability, Civil Society Organisations and Advocacy groups have urged the Federal government to bring on board competent individuals to pilot the affairs of the National Commission for persons living with disabilities for the commission to achieve its set goals.
They made call at a forum in Abuja to chart a direction for the commission.
One of the speakers at the event, the Executive Director, Centre for Citizens with Disabilities, Mr David Anyaele, observed that for the commission to carry out its mandates effectively there was the need for stakeholders to design plans and policies for the commission.
In a presentation, a former Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission Dr. Sam Amadi, emphasised that for the newly established National Commission for Persons with Disabilities to have an impact on the target people transparency and accountability must be given priority in the areas of appointments and policy implementation.
The Disability Focal Person in the National Assembly, Mr Mohammed Hassan called for constant engagements between the disability groups and the lawmakers for effective policy formulation that would protect the interest of people living with disabilities.
