Monarch advocates relocation of flood-ravaged community

The Residents of flood ravaged communities in Edu local government area of Kwara state have appealed to the state governments to permanently relocate them to higher plane to mitigate annual losses occasioned by flooding.

Speaking during a visit of the state government delegation to the area, led by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Saadu Kawu Haliru, said that the flood had sacked many victims from their houses while their farm produce was also destroyed.

“The relocation of the residents away from flood-prone areas is necessary following the earlier prediction of imminent flooding in some states by NIMET, including Kwara, ” he said.

The monarch also called on the state government to provide assistance to the flood victims to mitigate their sufferings.

Kwara state Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi assured the monarch as well as the residents of the area of the state governments determination to assist them.
