President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled government and people of Borno State on the passing of Emir of Biu, Alhaji Mai Mustapha Umar Aliyu.
Borno state government announced the death of the emir Tuesday, at 80 years old.
In a statement, the President also commiserates with the Biu Emirate Council on the death of the emir who had ruled for 31 years.
President Buhari eulogised him as a strong advocate for peace and development in the North East region, with visionary leadership.
The Emir’s good works will continue to be remembered and cherished in his community and the wider region of the North East, President Bihari said.
The Emir died at the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, Tuesday morning and would be laid to rest in Biu town later in the day, according to religious rites, Borno state commissioner for information, Alhaji Babakura Jatau said in a statement.
Mai Umar Mustapha
Mai Umar Mustapha was appointed in June 1989 as the 28th emir to succeed his father Mai Mustapha Aliyu.
The deceased was born on the 9th of November 1940 in Biu, and attended Kwaya Kusar Junior Primary School between 1947 and 1949 and Biu Central Primary School from 1950 to 1953.
