(Update) DSS releases Mailafia after 3rd invitation

Mailafia arriving DSS office in Jos, Plateau state, on Monday, September 14

A Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr Obadiah Mailafia has been released, after undergoing over 3 hours interrogation at the Department of State Security, DSS headquarters in Jos, Plateau state.

Mailafia, early Monday honoured an invitation by the DSS at about 11am.

He said “I don’t know why I have been invited again, this is the 3rd time that they are inviting me to their office and I am honouring it.”

Mailafiya, had claimed in an interview with a radio station, Nigeria info FM, that a state governor from the north was the leader of the Boko Haram insurgents.

The DSS quickly debunked Mailafia’s comment branding it as ‘Fake News’.

The claim caused a stir as the Northern Governors Forum asked security agencies to investigate.

Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation fined the station N5m for incitive content.

I know that I should have taken more care to corroborate some of the information I received, but perhaps some of it was uncorroborated. I was in no position to follow them to the camp to corroborate what was going on, Mailafia had said.

After his release, Mailafia commended the DSS for their professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
