Borno state Governor, Babagana Zulum has approved the engagement of five hundred and ninety four medical personnel.
They include 84 doctors, 365 nurses and midwives, 45 pharmacists and 100 health technicians.
Governor Zulum announced the recruitment at the end of a meeting with stakeholders in healthcare, at the government house, Maiduguri.
He said 200 nurses and midwives were fresh graduates while others were retired staff who would work on contract basis.
Governor Babagana Zulum also announced an approval for the State College of Nursing and Midwifery to admit 200 student annually.
He said the state government would enter an agreement with all students for steady payment of allowances and upon graduation from colleges, they would work in the state’s health sector over a period of time.
Gov Zulum also announced that he would soon embark on aggressive construction of new staff quarters for doctors, nurses and midwives, to encourage productivity.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Salihu Kwayabura pledged the commitment of all stakeholders in the health sector to improved access to quality and affordable medical services in line with Governor Zulum’s development objectives.
