Ekiti to reopen schools September 21

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has announced September 21, for reopening of primary and secondary schools in the state.

The States is among a few others, including Lagos, that have announced the partial reopening of some categories of schools.

Dr. Fayemi in a broadcast on Sunday, also directed tertiary institutions to opened from October 2, subject to each institution’s Governing Council decision and strict adherence to safety protocols to curb the spread of COVID-19, he said.

The Governor said tertiary institutions should liaise with the state COVID-19 Task Force for guidance on the appropriate measures to be put in place before the reopening.

Students in SSS II, JSS III and Primary 6 are to resume on September 21, while students in SSS I, JSS II and Primary 5 and 4 are to resume from September 28.

JSS I and Primary 1-3 are to resume October 19, while pupils in Kindergarten and Nursery are expected to resume on November 2, when more assurances of safety for their age bracket would have been established, he added.

Dr Fayemi also announced that worship centres could now hold two services on Friday, Saturday or Sunday while mid-week activities and vigils remained suspended.

Event centres are now allowed to operate but “under no condition should such a facility contain more than 50% of its normal capacity”, Governor Fayemi warned.
