One person has died and a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) attached to Akwa Ibom State Command, seriously wounded when a group of yet to be identified hoodlums attacked a convoy carrying some Chinese expatriates at Itungwa Community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia state.
Addressing newsmen at the NSCDC Command Headquarters Umuahia, the Commandant of the corps in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Samuel Fadeyi expressed shock over the attack stating that his men were on duty guarding the Chinese who were working on a road construction linking Akwa Ibom and Abia State when the incident occurred.
He noted that the hoodlums who were over 30 in number, blocked the road and demanded that money be given to them before they would allow the expatriates to pass through the road.
The Commandant stated that it was during the confrontation between his men and the hoodlums that the clash ensued with the injured officer now receiving treatment at a hospital in Abia state.
Reacting to the incident, the Commandant of the corps in Abia State Mr. Nnamdi Nwannukwu said an investigation into the incident has commenced. He described the incident as unfortunate and appealed to youths to always shun acts that could lead to a breach of peace and law in their areas
