15th Oniru of Iruland assumes throne

The 15th Oniru of Iruland Lagos, Oba Abdul-Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, has unveiled his economic development plan for the kingdom, entitled “Let’s Develop Iruland Together” with the acronym “LeGIt”. The blueprint, the Monarch said, was tailored to reflect key deliverables of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration.

Oba Lawal who unveiled the blueprint at his coronation reception held at his palace also unveiled his kingdom’s insignia, depicting fishermen, newbouldia leaves and the iconic Iru crown in golden hues.

The reception which was suspended due to COVID-19, came three months after he received the staff of office from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said he has absolute confidence in the leadership ability of Oba Lawal to transform the kingdom.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, advised residents of Iruland to continue to stand united behind the king in order to advance the development of the land.

APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu said the event should signal an end to the tussle and controversies that trailed the selection of Oba Lawal as Oniru, and urged the Monarch to work with the people and the State government to actualise his lofty dreams for the development of Iruland and Lagos State.

The event was graced by many dignitaries including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Wife of the State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, members of the State Executive Council and the State House of Assembly, former and serving members of the National Assembly, as well as many clerics.
