Delegates from all the member countries of the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Thursday, unanimously voted incumbent president of the bank, Akinwumi Adesina, to a second term in office.
The election held virtually during the bank’s annual general meeting.
Adesina, a former Nigerian minister of agriculture, was the sole candidate.
His 5 year second term will start September 1, 2020.
The result was announced in Abidjan by Chairman, AfDB’s Board of Governors, who is Cote d’Ivoire’s Minister of National Planning, Niale Kaba.
President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Adesina and promised Nigeria’s continued support.
I congratulate @akin_adesina on his re-election for a second term in office as President of the @AfDB_Group. It is a well deserved victory. I have no doubt that in this second term Dr. Adesina will accomplish even more of his lofty vision for the Bank.
