The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development has distributed consumables and non-consumables to Internally Displaced Person’s at Wassa settlement in the Federal capital territory.
The Minster, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, said the distribution was part of activities to commemorate the Ministry’s one year anniversary.
Represented by the Director, overseeing office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Aliyu Grema, the Minister assured that government remained resolute to addressing the humanitarian challenges in the country.
The Coordinator of the camp, Geoffrey Bitrus who responded on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the government for the items and timely interventions but however, appealed with the ministry to upgrade the clinic to address the challenges of pregnant women.
Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Senator Basheer Muhammed, promised the Commission would ensure they live in dignity and attain their life potential.
The items donated include, rice, beans, vegetable oil, beverages, blanket and wrappers.
The Ministry was established on 21st of August 2019 with the core mandate to promote humanitarian policies, provide effective coordination of National and International humanitarian interventions as well as ensure strategic disaster mitigation, preparedness and response
