Nasarawa State House of Assembly has suspended the Council Chairman of Nasarawa Local Government, Mr. Mohammed Sani and Deputy Chairman of Karu Local Government, Mr. Lawal Karshi for alleged insubordination.
Speaker of the House, Mr. Ibrahim Balarabe announced this during an emergency plenary in Lafia.
Mr Ibrahim Balarabe directed the suspended Chairman to handover to the Deputy Chairman and vacate his office immediately.
According to the speaker, the local council officials and their supporters allegedly attended a state High Court sitting in Akwanga to show solidarity with the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Ahmed Tijani who was removed from office recently.
The speaker described the action of the officials as insubordination and disloyalty to the Nasarawa State Government especially when it was the state House of Assembly that recommended to the Governor, the removal of the former SSG, Alhaji Ahmed Tijani.
The House specifically frowned at the action of the Council Chairman, Mr. Muhammad Sani for abandoning his area a day to a critical by-election in his local government without recourse to his role as the Chief Security Officer of the local government to ensure the success of the exercise.
Mr. Balarabe directed the Commissioner of Police in the state to deploy personnel to the affected Local Government to ensure full compliance and maintenance of law and order.
The speaker inaugurated a seven-man investigative committee comprising members of the house to submit their report in three months.
