The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, in collaboration with Lagos Environmental Protection Agency LASEPA, Lagos State Safety Commission and Lagos State Fire Service have constituted a working committee to develop and monitor safety procedures of commercial storage and sale of gas cylinders within the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Director General/CEO of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu in Lagos.
The action is coming on the heels of directives from the Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, following recent series of deadly and highly devastating fire caused by gas cylinder explosions across the entire state.
Dr Oke-Osanyintolu noted that gas cylinder explosions have affected lives and property in Lagos State.
The statement says the effect of such fire outbreaks have been extremely challenging for the agencies and have caused great hardship in a time when the impact of COVID-19 is already affecting economic activity.
The committee will comprise of representative from all stakeholders with the aim of seeking ways to address this scourge.
Dr Oke-Osanyintolu said Fact sheets and relevant information on gas safety have been prepared and are available for dissemination across all media houses in line with the advocacy and enlightenment duties of the agency.
