The Corps Marshall, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi says rehabilitation of the 3rd mainland bridge may be completed before the six months deadline.
He said synergy among the contractor, security, traffic agencies and the state government in ensuring seamless traffic was commendable.
Mr. Oyeyemi was on an inspection, to access the traffic situation around the bridge.
The 11.8km bridge is a critical corridor connecting Lagos mainland and island, with an estimated daily traffic at peak period of inward vehicles of 60,000 and outward of 20,000.
With the partial closure of the brigde on July 24, there is anticipation of traffic gridlock.
He said more road safety officers would be deployed to alternative route like Stadium road, Constain roundabout, Iponri, Surulere, Oyinbo, Carter bridge, Iddo, CMS busstop and Eko bridge.
Mr. Oyeyemi commended motorists for their cooperation and assured them of government’s commitment to providing motorable roads with the ongoing road rehabilitation across the country.
The work implemented by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing is divided into two phases with each phase lasting 3 months.
