The Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina Pioneer students forum has distributed palliatives to internally displaced persons in Batsari local government, as a gesture to mark this year’s Eid-El Kabir celebration.
At an event to hand over the palliatives to the IDP’s, interim chairman of the forum Comrade Nura Sada Batagarawa said the gesture was aimed at easing the plight of the IDP’s during the festive period.
He revealed that the forum received contributions from its members as a token of sympathy for the condition of the IDP’s who were displaced by armed bandits in recent months.
The interim chairman who was accompanied by other members of the distribution committee pledged the commitment of the forum in rendering similar gesture to the IDP’s of Faskari in Funtua.
Comrade Batagarawa urged Alumni of other tertiary institutions and Non governmental organizations as well as spirited individuals to donate generously to IDP’s taking refuge in various camps accross the state.
The head of local government administration who doubled as the acting chairman of Batsari Alhaji Iyal Yahya Runka described the assistance as the first of it’s kind and expressed optimism that the gesture will no doubt bring the IDP’s closer in having sense of belonging.
Sarkin Ruman Katsina, district Head of Batsari Alhaji Tukur Muazu Rumah estimated that there were over three thousand IDP’s taking refuge in various camps within communities in the area, describing the gesture as commendable.
Two of the beneficiaries Malama Maryam Hamisu and Murja Muntari expressed appreciation to the pioneer students of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina for the palliatives and pray to God to reward them abundantly.
Items distributed to the IDP’s include 370 sets of women and children wear 28 number of children shoes, 48 hijabs 30 cartons of spaghetti.
