Hepatitis and other infectious disease activists have advocated the subsidy in the management of hepatitis in the country.
It costs about ₦10,000 to carry out a viral load test for hepatitis.
They made the call at a media round table event organised by a Non-Governmental Organisation ‘Heartland Alliance’ and the National AIDS & STIs Control Programme (NASCP), of the Ministry of Health with other stakeholders in participation to mark the 2020 World Hepatitis Day.
CEO Heartland Alliance, Mr. Bartholomew Ochonye, therefore, appealed to the government to subsidise the price and make it accessible to all.
National Desk officer, Viral Hepatitis control of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Clement Olufemi explained why the test was expensive and called for unilateral response across states to help reduce the cost for hepatitis test and treatment as not all states were committed.
