COVID-19: Niger state bans Sallah festivities

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has directed the cancellation of all festivities during the forthcoming Eid-el Kabir celebration throughout the state.

The directive is contained in a statement by the Secretary to Niger state Government and Chairman Task Force committee on COVID-19, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane.

He said Governor Sani Bello has granted permission for the conduct of Eid congregational prayers at Jumaat mosque in eight Emirates councils spread across the state.

According to Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, this should be conducted under strict compliance of COVID-19 protocols.

He, however, added that the decision to ban Sallah festivities is part of government effort at curtailing the spread of Coronavirus pandemic as well as security challenges bedevilling Niger state towards achieving a hitch-free Eid-el Kabir celebration.
