NITDA alerts Nigerians on fake messages circulating on social media

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has cautioned the general public on the recent circulation of fake news on the COVID 19 pandemic especially in the social media.

The fake news tagged “Argentina Is Doing It”, being circulated particularly on WhatsApp in the form of a link, is aimed at hacking phone lines of unsuspecting subscribers in seconds the moment it is clicked.

In a statement by the Head Corporate Affairs of NITDA, Hajia Hadiza Umar, the Agency says
the sender claims some kind of affiliation with a credible source or organization with insightful messages.

The statement says the message is a variant of a similar message in circulation since 2017.

NITDA calls on all well-meaning Nigerians to support the Federal Government in its efforts at containing the spread of COVID-19 in the country by not spreading fake news.
