63% of hand sanitizers have no NAFDAC approvals – PTF

The Presidential Task Force on COVID19 says about 63 percent of alcohol-based hand sanitizers in Abuja do not have NAFDAC’s registration number.

The Chairman of the Task force and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha stated this at the PTF briefing in Abuja.

Mr Mustapha said the information was according to a survey conducted by the Nigeria Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development, NIPRD in the FCT aimed at checking the influx of sub-standard goods in the market.

The PTF Chairman said even though the pandemic ought to stimulate local production of sanitizers and other PPE’s, it was unfortunate to record incidences of sub-standard production of such products.

While noting that similar situation may also be evident in other parts of the country, the SGF urged the public to procure their personal protective equipment from credible sources.
