Travelers that ply Marabar Kuringafa-Yar Kasuwa road in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State have made a distress plea to the government to carry out an erosion control project on the road.
They made the plea in an interview with our correspondent who visited the section of the road affected by erosion.
Radio Nigeria observed that the section was on the verge of collapse as erosion has eaten up its edges.
The bridge that links Zangon Marke and Kadanyar Baushe also faces the danger of collapse due to erosion.
Commuters that spoke to Radio Nigeria said vehicles that ply the road at the risk of falling into the ditch dug by erosion along the road.
A resident of Zango Marke, Malam Inusa Dan-malam, said good Samaritans from the village stay along the bridge at night to flash torch lights on travellers to guide them away from the ditch.
They urged the Katsina State government to carry out concrete filling on the erosion ditch and rehabilitate the Marabar Kankara-Yar Kasuwa road which has been eaten up by pot holes and erosion.
While our correspondent could not reach the management of the state Roads Maintenance Agency for comment on the issue, Governor Aminu Bello Masari had last month told reporters that the state government plans to carry our several erosion control projects across the state.
He said the projects have been approved by the World Bank under the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP.
