The Federal Government has directed council members of federal institutions across the country to develop ideas that will improve revenue generation to boost infrastructure and quality of learning.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu gave the directive at the inauguration of the Governing councils of thirteen new federal Universities in Abuja.
The Universities are, Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi state, Federal University of Lafia Nasarawa state, Federal University Kashere Gombe state, Federal University Wukari in Taraba, Federal University Dutsin-Ma Katsina state, and Federal University Dutse Jigawa state.
Others Are Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti state, Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa state, Federal University Birnin-Kebbi, kebbi state, Federal University Gusau, Zamfara state , Federal University Gashua, Yobe state and the federal University of health sciences otukpo, Benue state.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu said the council members were made up of eminent Nigerians who have contributed to the development and upliftment of the Nigerian University system.
Mallam Adamu explained that inadequate funding was a challenge facing the sector and urged them to be come up with ideas that would improve revenue generation for the growth of the University system.
He urged council members and chairmen to respect the rule of law in the discharge of their duties while also respecting the rules of federal character in the appointment of their officers.
The Minister also tasked the governing boards to block loopholes and come up with ideas that would shore up the Internally Generated Revenue of the universities.
. Responding, the representative of the newly appointed chairmen, Prof. Funmilayo Togonu-Bickersteth, said the council members look forward to cooperation from the Minister and NUC, especially in the provision of useful information.
She pledged the best of the council members towards the advancement of the nation and mankind.
