Joint Unions of Nasarawa State Tertiary Institutions has issued a two-week ultimatum to the State government to reverse the appointment of Interim Administrator to the State-owned College of Education, Akwanga, or face industrial disharmony in all the three higher institutions.
Chairman of the union, Dr. Ada Benjamin gave the ultimatum at a news briefing after an emergency meeting with officials of the union in Lafia.
Dr. Ada Benjamin who described the appointment of a non professional as Interim Administrator to head a ‘teacher training institution’ as alien and capable of truncating the growth and development of the school, called on the state government to sign into law the Act establishing the college to provide a strong framework for smooth academic activities and running of the institution.
Dr. Ada Benjamin also pointed out that non-implementation of promotions and annual increments of staff salaries in all three tertiary institutions had worsened their living conditions in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, and stressed the need for the state government to take action in that direction to guarantee industrial harmony.
The union chairman further called on the state government to urgently provide an enabling environment in adherence to the COVID-19 Safety Protocols at the three tertiary institutions that have been directed to resume.
