FG adopts solar energy to meet need of rural communities

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to increase power generation through solar energy to enhance sustainable development in the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande gave the assurance when he featured on Radio Nigeria Good Governance and Public Accountability Programme, “Have Your Say” in Abuja.

He explained that as part of Federal Government’s stimulus package of 2.3 Trillion Naira, aimed at cushioning the effects of Covid-19 and to  reinvigorate the economy, over Five Million Households would be connected to Solar Energy for improved access to electricity across the country.

Mr. laolu Akande described energy as fundamental to the socioeconomic development of the country and for poverty eradication.

According to the SSA to the President on Media and Publicity in the Office of the Vice President, the Programme would also focus on Agricultural Production to create an enabling environment for Small Scale Businesses to thrive as well as provide job opportunities for youths across the nation.

Contributing to the Programme, Bishop Isong, who commended the Federal Government for the introduction of the stimulus package to improve the living standard of the people however called for transparency and proper monitoring of the Programme.

Other Callers on the Programme also urged Government to embrace Federal Character especially in Appointments particularly of the EFCC Chairman to ensure Equity, Justice and Fairness.
