Nigeria Customs confiscates two vehicles with bags of rice

The Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit “Zone C” Owerri has confiscated two vehicles carrying about one thousand bags of foreign rice.

The Comptroller in charge of the zone Mr. Kayode Olusemire while displaying the seized items to newsmen in Owerri said more than six hundred bags of 50kg of foreign rice were re-packaged with local rice sac to deceive men of the service.

According to him the Owerri bound lorry took off from kebbi state where the foreign was re-bagged but got intercepted following an intelligence report.

Mr. Olusemire noted that one hundred and twenty six bales of used clothes were also intercepted along Enugu-Owerri expressway in a branded mass transit bus belonging to Enugu state government.

Mr. Olusemire stated that the seized items had a total duty paid value of over ninety million naira and warned those who engage in smuggling to have a rethink as the service would not relent in its effort to end illicit trade in the country.

The Nigeria Customs Service “Zone C” Owerri had within the last two weeks confiscated vehicles laden with over three thousand cartridges of live ammunition, foreign rice, vegetable oil and used clothes.
