Flight resumption: Aides of VIPs will not enter airports – Sirika

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hardi Sirika says aids of Very Important Personalities, VIPs, politicians, as well as all those who have no business travelling will not be allowed to enter the airports as domestic flights operations resume.

Sirika stated this in Abuja at an interactive session with members of the Senate Committee on Aviation on Thursday in Abuja.

Senator Sarika who was responding to questions on protocols put in place to stop further spread of COVID 19 pandemic said all information regarding the observance of necessary protocols have been circulated adding that President Buhari has given his approval.

On resumption he said that the Abuja and Lagos airports would resume domestic operations on July, 8 while, Kano, Port Harcourt, Owerri and Maiduguri would resume on 11th while other airports would resume on 15th.

The minister said the airport’s authorities were committed to ensuring the provision of necessary safety protocols of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

According to the minister, there would be nothing like rush hours stressing that people have to stay safe before anything happens.

He also assured the Senate committee members that there would not be an issue with the payment of workers salary in the sector.

Earlier, Chairman Senate Committee on Aviation Senator Smart Adeyemi, said the interactive session was designed to find out steps been taken by the ministry and aviation authorities to ensure the safety of passengers as the airports reopen.

He also noted that the meeting was also meant to get details on the demands of aviation workers who had earlier complained about non-payment of their salaries.
