President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the indefinite suspension of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, Mr Adebayo Somefun over violation of the extant Financial Regulations and Procurement Act setting up the fund.
Also suspended along with Mr Somefun are the General Manager Administration & Human Resources, Mr Olusegun Olumide Bashorun, General Manager Finance, Mr Lawan Tahir and the General Manager, Claims and Compensation, Mr Chris Esedebe as well as the Deputy General Manager, Investment and Treasury Management, Mr Olodotun Adegbite.
A statement by the Deputy Director Press in the ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr Charles Akpan says the suspended officers are to face a Joint Board and Audit Investigative Panel that has been set up to look into the financial and procurement breaches as well as what it describes as gross misconduct in the NSITF from 2016 till date.
Acoording to the statement, the affected officers have also been directed to handover to the most senior officers in their respective departments.
The statement also indicates that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has approved the redeployment of Ibadan Regional Manager of the fund, Mrs Temitope Akinwale to take charge of Finance and concurrently oversee the Office of the Executive Director of Finance and Investment as the Acting Executive Director.
Accordingly, the Portharcourt Regional Manager of the fund, Mrs Maureen Allagoa is now moved to the NSITF Headquarters, Abuja as the General Manager in charge of Administration and Human Resources and concurrently oversee the Office of Executive Director Administration as Acting Executive Director while the General Manager, Health, Safety and Environment Department as the most senior General Manager in the fund now assumes the position of Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the fund.
The statement adds that all the appointments are with effect from next Monday, 6th July, 2020 and will last still further notice.
