Emir of Akko in Gombe state, Alhaji Umar Atiku, has stressed the need for the public to encourage victims of rape cases to report perpetrators of the act to the relevant authorities.
The Emir made the appeal while speaking with newsmen at his palace in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe state.
He noted that the failure of parents and the society to allow victims report perpetrators of such act has led to the proliferation of rape cases in the country.
The monarch explained that many victims would rather suffer in silence than report the matter to the relevant authorities for the fear of stigmatisation.
According to him such cultural taboos has hindered the effort of government and other security agencies from tackling the menace.
The Emir of Akko also blamed the collapse of good moral training among youth for the rise in the number of rape cases as most of the incidences occurred within the household.
