Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs Mariam Katagum says government is doing everything within its power to ensure resuscitation of MSMEs in the country post COVID-19.
She made this known during a webinar meeting to mark the world MSME DAY 2020 in Abuja.
Mrs Katagum said MSME account for 76% of the nation’s labour force and contributes largely to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP.
She explained that the MSME play a pivotal role in stimulating economic growth and providing employment for vulnerable groups.
The Director General of SMEDAM, Umaru Radda said the intervention of the federal government was centred on micro and small businesses
He advocated measures to assist macro-businesses .
The chairman board of SMEDAM, Mr Femi Pedro said most MSMEs had been struggling to survive before the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a goodwill message, representative of UNIDO, Mr Jean Bakole commended the federal government on efforts being taken to support MSME.
