Stakeholders want youths to shun drug abuse

Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria, AHAPN, Abuja Branch, has advised Nigerians most especially youths to shun drug abuse and always patronize registered and qualified pharmacist.

A Member of the Association’s Committee Against Drug Abuse, Pharmacist Nevan Bello made the call in Abuja while speaking with Radio Nigeria on this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Pharmacist Nevan Bello who attributed some cases of untimely death, mental illness and physical deformity to drug abuse said the essence of the day was to create awareness on the menace of drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the society.

According to her, the Association has commenced sensitization campaign against the act which she described as threat to the society and the country at large.

Commenting on this year’s theme “Better Knowledge for Better Care”, Pharmacist Nevan Bello expressed concern over the intake of tramadol and other unprescribed drugs by Nigerian youths which has over the years caused nuisance in the society.

She said the Association was collaborating with other stakeholders to stem the tide drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the country.

The Pharmacist who also attributed some cases of rape in the society to drug abuse advised parents to always monitor their children to reduce drug abuse.

While describing drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking as a criminal act, Pharmacist Bello said the Association would not recent on its oars towards combating the menace.

She therefore called for effective public private sector collaboration in the elimination of drug abuse and Illicit trafficking in the country
