The Federal Government has deployed a special unit of military personnel to combat emerging security threats in Benue, Nasarawa and other North Central States.
The unit is to work with existing security architecture to eliminate kidnapping, banditry, insurgency and terrorism from the zone.
Commander of the group, Major General Moohnday Ali who made this known when he paid Governor Samuel Ortom a courtesy call said the desire of the Chief of Army Staff was to see that the country is free from all security threats.
Gen. Ali assured that the unit would work assiduously to tame all forms of criminality within its area of jurisdiction and would discharge the mandate without fear or favour.
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief of Army Staff for deploying an additional team to work with those already on ground to reduce the rate of criminality in the zone.
Governor Ortom who stated that one of the major challenges of Benue was continued attacks on communities by herdsmen expressed hope that the special unit would help in enforcing the open grazing prohibition and ranches establishment law of the state.
