The House of Representatives has urged the Board of the African Development Bank, AfDB, to halt further harassment of the president of the bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina.
The House also urged the federal government to also called on African leaders to intervene.
This followed the adoption a motion by the minority leader of the house, Mr Ndudi Elumelu, on the urgent need to intervene on the attempt to tarnish the image of the president of the AfDB, Dr Akinwumi Adesina.
Leading the debate, Mr Elumelu, stated that the bank under the leadership of Dr Adesina has been very remarkable in steering the organization and its presence highly visible and impactful in less than four years of his leadership.
The Lawmaker, expressed concern that recently, a group of whistleblowers pettisioned Dr Adesina, accusing him of breaches of the bank’s codes of conduct, which investigations later found to be frivolous.
According to him, the rejection of the report of the committee which absolved Adesina, by the United States Treasury secretary, Mr Steven Mnuchin, portends grave danger to the Independence of the bank.
He observed that the may also be an attempt to discredit Dr Adesina from seeking another term.
The House mandated the ECOWAS Parliament to investigate the matter, resolve same and report back.
