An ad-hoc committee set up by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to investigate impropriety in the renovation and fencing of public secondary schools has indicted the secretary to the state government, Mr Aliyu Tijani of embezzling more than three hundred million Naira.
Chairman of the committee, Mr Daniel Ogazi announced this during plenary in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital.
Mr Ogazi said out of the over one point four billion Naira released for the renovation, Mr. Tijani, who was the Commissioner for Education when the contract was awarded by the previous administration could not account for about three hundred million Naira.
He said most of the contractors handling the renovation project disappeared after they were paid mobilization fees while some abandoned the project shortly after commencement.
He said Mr Tijani had assumed responsibility when he appeared before the investigative committee.
