Mothers and Caregivers have been encouraged to continue to immunize their children against vaccine-preventable diseases notwithstanding the partial lockdown in the country.
The Imo State Director of National Orientation Agency Mr. Vitus Ekeocha made the call during a sensitization meeting organized for Journalists in Owerri.
He stressed the need for immunization against measles, polio and other childhood killer diseases.
Mr. Ekeocha appealed to the media to pay more attention to health related issues especially as it concerns the lives of pregnant women and children under the age of five.
The State Immunization Officer, Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr. Chibuzo Okoroama described measles as one of the leading causes of deaths in children and urged mothers to ensure their wards were fully immunized to reduce infant mortality.
Correspondent Chinazo Ilechukwu reports that the NOA used the forum to appeal to Nigerians to disabuse their minds on rumours about vaccines but remain committed to routine immunization to protect lives.
