Eight more persons in Katsina State have been confirmed COVID-19 positive, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 83.
Briefing newsmen in Katsina, Chairman of the state Enlightenment Committee on COVID-19, Alhaji AbdulKareem Sirika said the latest cases have increased the number of local government areas affected by the pandemic to 11.
He said in line with the state government’s decision to lock-down any part of the state with cases of the virus, Malumfashi and Rimi Local Government Areas will be locked down effective from 7am tomorrow, May 7 and remain so indefinitely.
The Chairman appealed to people of the state to continue to observe physical distancing, regular hand washing and the use of personal protective equipment to prevent further spread of the virus in the state.
So far eight persons have been treated and discharged while eight others have died of the virus in Katsina state.
