The Progressives Governors’ Forum, PGF, wants an improvement on the implementation of the Federal Government school feeding program.
The Forum also stresses the need for monitoring and accountability as part of the implementation to make the initiative effective and result oriented.
These decisions were part of the communique issued at the end of a teleconference of the Forum signed by the Co-Chairmen of the PGF Programme Implementation Steering Committee, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State and his Jigawa State counterpart, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar.
The Communique admits that malnutrition and undernourishment are social, economic and developmental challenges that must be addressed comprehensively.
It says the Forum warns that the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced an entirely new dimension to the crisis of nutrition by aggravating and widening the scope of the problem beyond school-age children to include the adult population which the initiative should take into consideration.
The Communique assures the commitment of the Forum towards checking malnutrition and undernourishment as part of the nation’s commitment towards the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs) and meeting the target of zero hunger in the country by 2030.
