Conditional cash transfer flagged off in Anambra

Conditional Cash Transfer has been flagged off in Anambra state

The initiative is one of the social investment programmes, SIP, introduced by the federal government as part of a poverty alleviation initiative.

At the ceremony in Ihiala local government area, Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, said the federal government was paying two months upfront of N20000 to cushion the effect of the sit-at-home caused by the COVID19 pandemic.

She said plans were underway to expand the register of the Conditional Cash Transfer to accommodate more vulnerable persons and poor families.

Head of unit cash transfer, Anambra state, Mr. Raphel Enukora, said 8113 vulnerable persons and households from 6 pilot LGAs have benefited from the scheme.

Some beneficiaries, Mrs. Mary Nzerioha and Mr. Ephraim Enwerem said the money would ease some of their burdens.
