Catholic bishops donate 435 hospitals to taskforce

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), has donated a total of 435 Hospitals and Clinics to the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The President of the CBCN, Most Rev. Augustine Akubeze, stated this when he led some members of the CBCN on a visit to the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss mustapha in Abuja.

The President of CBCN represented by the Bishop of Abuja Diocese, Ignatius Kaigama, said the gesture was to complement the efforts of the Federal Government in tackling COVID-19 in the country.

Most Rev. Akubueze commended the PTF for various steps it has so far taken to curtail further spread of the disease in the country noting that the Conference was donating its hospitals and clinics for use by the PTF as solidarity as well as expression of goodwill.

The Chairman of the PTF on COVID-19 and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, expressed appreciation to the Bishops’ Conference for making their medical facilities available at the disposal of the Task Force to treat those with the virus.

Mr. Boss also called on other faith-based groups to speak up and lend a strong voice to the decisions of government particularly, on restriction of movement so as to halt the spread of the pandemic.
