Deputy governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe has led a team of experts to inspect the Biosafety (Grade III) Lab at Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital proposed to serve as Covid-19 testing center.
The team comprised of four professors from the African Centre of Excellence for Neglected Tropical Disease and Forensic Biotechnology (ACENTDFB) as well as staff of the Nigerian Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC) Kaduna Office.
Dr. Balarabe said Kaduna State was in an emergency mode and needed to begin COVID-19 testing as soon as possible.
She stressed the need for all stakeholders to work with the state government to strengthen preparedness and response.
According to her, the Centre would be the only testing facility in the north-west region.
The inspection was coming ahead of a scheduled visit by the
NCDC validation team from Abuja was expected to give the final assessment next week.
The team leader, Professor Mohammed Mamman described the facility as one of the best in the country.
