A Non-governmental organisation, Young Ambassadors Against Drug Abuse Initiative, (YAADAI) has commended the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and other Media organisations for their pro-activeness in safeguarding the citizens against COVID-19.
In a statement by the Chief Executive Officer, YAADAI, Zainab Usman, the media has been able to inform and update the public on COVID-19 also referred to as Coronavirus within and outside the country with a high level of professionalism.
The statement further stated that the sacrifices made by Journalists, Health Workers and Security Operatives at a time like this is worthy of National Honour.
It urges relevant authorities saddled with the responsibility of enlightening the public like the National Orientation Agency to compliment the efforts of the media by reaching out to those at the Internally Displaced Persons Camps, Rural communities and the most vulnerable in the society and to educate them on the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to stay at home.
In addition, National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration Control (NAFDAC) should intensify its efforts at making sure that the manufacturing of Chloroquine for possible clinical trial treatment of Coronavirus is not abused by the public and misconstrued as cure for the disease.
While commending the Federal Government for its effort at coming up with the lock-down measures towards containing the spread of Coronavirus, the NGO also urges the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to urgently supply palliatives to the vulnerable and also to find ways to decongest IDP camps nationwide in line with social distancing to curtail the spread of the virus.
