Lawmaker seeks collaboration on COVID-19

Chairman, House of Reps Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Mr Segun Odebunmi has called for urgent collaboration between the Federal and Oyo State governments to prevent the spread of COVID 19 from Ejigbo in Osun state to neighouring communities specifically to Surulere and Ogo Oluwa Local Governments.

Mr Odebunmi who is representing Surulere /Ogo Oluwa federal constituency in the House of Reps urged the Presidential taskforce team on COVID-19 to deploy more medical personnel to the boundary communities to prevent the import of the virus and spread in the state.

“The state taskforce team lead by Professor Temtope Alonge should as a matter of urgency swing into action by putting in place necessary facilities and strategy to prevent spread of the virus from Osun to Oyo through Ejigbo and its environs” The lawmaker stated.

Mr Odebunmi that explained Over twenty communities in Surulere and Ogo-Oluwa local governments in Oyo state shared boundary to Ejigbo which is being used to quarantine returnee from Abdijan by Osun state Government, and 9 index cases have been recorded while results of about 103 suspected cases is being awaited.

“The government should declare total lockdown of the area if not the entire Oyo state where the case is on the increase” He said.

As a Federal Lawmaker “I have embarked on continuous sensitization and distribution of hand sanitizers and other palliatives to my constituents.” He concluded”

While commending the governor of Oyo state, Mr Seyi Makinde and his Osun state counterpart, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola for their efforts in combating the dreaded virus, Mr Odebunmi called on stakeholders to support the effort of the government in preventive measures.
