President Buhari signs Covid-19 regulations

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Covid-19 Regulations, 2020, which declares Coronavirus a dangerous infectious disease.

A State House statement says the President is exercising the powers conferred on him by Sections 2, 3 and 4 of the Quarantine Act of 2004, and all other powers enabling him in that behalf.

The Regulations, which come into effect today, the 30th of March, 2020, also give legal backing to the various measures outlined in the President’s National Broadcast on the 29th of March 29, 2020, such as the Restriction/Cessation of Movement in Lagos, FCT and Ogun States and others, towards containing the spread of the pandemic in the country.

Also, to ensure that Nigerians can still perform on-line transactions and use ATMs whilst observing these restrictions, the statement says exemption has been granted to the financial system and money markets to allow skeletal services to keep the system in light operations during the pendency of these regulations.
