FAAN disinfects Abuja airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has commenced the decontamination and disinfection of the new terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, Abuja against the coronavirus pandemic.

This is coming barely a week after the airport was closed to international flights.

Lagos International airport was also disinfected.

The agency said the closure of the 4 major airports in the country would afford them the opportunity to ensure any trace of the virus was wiped out.

The Mallam Aminu Kano International airport, Kano and the Port-Harcourt International airport are also expected to be disinfected soon.

Akanu Ibiam International Airport

The ongoing reconstruction work on the runway of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu billed to have been completed and opened before the Easter celebration has been suspended.

The suspension of work was announced by the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika on Tuesday after an inspection of the airport.

He said, “Considering that the construction workers have downed tools owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Government, hereby, officially announces suspension of procurement. The work would have been completed in six to seven days, but the workers left to be with their families in view of the social distancing,” the minister stated.
