Nigeria Medical Association wants NCDC unbundled

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA wants government to unbundle tasks of the Center for Disease Control, NCDC in regards to laboratory testing and confirmation of COVID19.

This according to the Association will decentralize testing and turnaround time for tests of the virus in order not to lose probable cases to the community.

The Chairman, NMA FCT, Dr Philip Ekpe who made the call at a news conference explained that it was part of issues raised at the Association’s emergency executive council meeting.

He called on Ministry of Health to grant facilities with Polymerase Chain Reaction, PCR, machines to conduct the testing.

Dr Ekpe highlighted other resolutions reached to include provision of life insurance to all volunteers, steady water and electricity supply to all hospitals for effective infection prevention and control, as well as a lockdown which must be enforced in the FCT including the rural areas.
