Ministers in the country are donating 50 per cent of their March salary to support the fight against the coronavirus, as infections in the country continues to rise.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed 11 news infections on Friday, bringing the number to 81.
Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed said in a statement that minister of state for transportation, Gbemisola Saraki, will coordinate on behalf of the 43 ministers.
The total amount is not clear as the salaries of the ministers is not known.
“This global virus outbreak will require nations, continents and smaller communities to pull together to contribute their resources and support one another,” the minister of state for transportation was quoted
Mohammed said the ministers also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his leadership role in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
Nigeria has so far recorded one death. Three patients have recovered and have since been discharged from hospital.
