Nollywood actor, Matthew Alkali, popularly known as Dareng in the popular African Magic series “Halita”, has died on set.
Matthew reportedly died on the 24th of March 2020, while filming on a movie set close to Keffi, Nasarawa State.
He was aged 36.
Speculations were rife on Wednesday that the late Halita star died because he was infected by the Coronavirus.
But the Series producer, Dimbo Atiya, debunked it.
“He was said to be on the location of the project since Sunday. Alkali Matt had a blood clot condition for a long time, something he had managed with orthodox medicine,” he said in a statement from his Facebook page.
“But (Matt) sought local traditional solution recently, I spoke with him on phone just on Saturday,” he added.
Atiya also denied reports that the late Alkali Matthew attended the 2020 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in Lagos, from where it is believed he may have caught the Coronavirus.
“He was not at the AMVCA. And even if he had a contact with anyone with COVID 19 here in Abuja he will still be in the incubating period.”
“If he did come in contact with the virus, it was not on the set of HALITA or through anyone on that project as it is speculated,” Atiya insisted.
Alkali Matthew is expected to be buried on Saturday.
